As an artist, I’m drawn to the quirks and ironies of life, the ambiguous moments, and how we pursue our fantasies and pleasures. I look for scenes that invite viewers to wonder and perhaps imagine a story as they absorb the details. I come from a documentary tradition, believing the real world can dish out material far more compelling and credible than anything I could make up on my own.

I usually execute my ideas by exploring an interesting location or activity, patiently observing the pageant before my eyes, then quickly pulling it together in a captured image. The resulting digital file is the raw material for what transpires in my studio. I often go to great lengths to refine each image in Photoshop, and although I post some of my work on Instagram and this website, for me, the print is the ultimate destination, created with archival inks on the finest archival papers.

I now start my frequent travels from my home in northern Colorado, after nearly 30 years in Portland, Oregon.
