Exhibit Opens at the Foothills Art Center

July 2, 2025

A little more than a year after my solo exhibition at the Viewpoint Photographic Art Center in Sacramento, I opened a more ambitious show at the Foothills Arts Center in Golden, Colorado, running May 23 - August 3, 2025. In Sacramento I showed 25 prints in 20 x 24-inch mats behind plexiglass. In Golden, I’m showing:

  • 20 images in 20 x 24-inch frames

  • Eight in 9 x 12-inch frames

  • Two 30 x 40-inch images, displayed with poster hangers

  • A 30 x 30-inch typology of round objects I’ve found on cruise ships (playing on the shape of portholes)

  • A larger typology of 25 prints in 8-1/2 x 11-inch mats, showing bespoke cabin door decorations

  • A looping video showing other photos, combined with cruise industry marketing slogans

Julie Grahame, editor, curator, consultant, and publisher of aCurator.com, skillfully helped me narrow my large portfolio of images for the show.

On July 12 at noon, I’ll be teaching a 90-minute workshop, followed by a one-hour gallery talk.

A couple of months before the opening, I had the idea to put a few reclining deck loungers in the middle of the beautiful, new gallery. Curator Eriq Hochuli agreed it would say, “This is fun!” to anyone entering the space, and was kind enough to purchase some folding chairs.

The exhibition runs through August 3, which spans the busy tourist season in this town at the gate to the Rocky Mountains (and world headquarters for Coors beer). I hope many people will enjoy it. See the online version of the Floating World exhibit.

SeeSaw Art Gallery

During March and April, another aspect of the Floating World project was shown at the SeeSaw Art Gallery in Englewood, CO, as part of the biennial Month of Photography in Denver. At every cruise port, I spend a few minutes walking up and down the pier along the ship, just to see what's going on. I came across this scene during a steamy stop in Bali, on the first cruise where I started seriously making images on the ship.
